The Linda Lou Mealing Intergenerational Garden

The Linda Lou Mealing Intergenerational Garden, is a place to cultivate more than just food. We're all about growing soulful food while digging into a little fun. By bringing generations together, we're not just planting veggies; we're sprouting new skills, sharing wisdom and growing resources.

IT TAKES A VILLAGE

to cultivate a future that's as vibrant and healthy as our harvest.

We welcome everyone in the neighborhood to join us through the growing seasons as we grow together!

The Culmination of the Growing Season and
First Year of the Linda Lou Mealing Intergenerational Garden

This first growing season at the Linda Lou Mealing Intergenerational Garden was a wonderful first run—filled with learning, growth, and community connection. When we began in the late spring, our vision was simple yet powerful: to create a space where people of all ages could come together to honor the legacy of Ms. Linda through the continuation of growing food, and strengthening the bonds within our neighborhood. Even with limited resources, our shared dedication and teamwork transformed an empty plot of land into a thriving ecosystem and welcoming green space.

Throughout the season, we worked side by side—elders passing down their gardening knowledge and life lessons, while youth brought energy, creativity, and fresh perspectives. Together, we cultivated an abundant harvest of a little under 500 pounds of fresh produce, representing more than 20 varieties of vegetables, herbs, and flowers.

Our garden beds overflowed with different varieties of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, strawberries, carrots, alongside fragrant herbs like basil, parsley, cilantro, and chives, and bright sun flowers that attracted pollinators and brought color to the space.
